This work depicts a section of the Yarra River that runs through what is now known as Banksia Park. In the 1890's and early 1900's this area was a popular spot for bathing and much of this popularity was due to the sandbanks that extended into the river. These provided a firm base on which bathers could stand, as shown here by Conder.
