OF MALE NUDE, c. 1887 This work is typical of the charcoal works that were produced by students studying under the Drawing Master, Frederick McCubbin at the Drawing School, National Gallery of Victoria. Davies was enrolled in Frederick McCubbin's classes in the first half of 1886, and his drawing skills must have impressed McCubbin, for he allowed Davies to enter the School of Painting, after only six months tuition. It is believed that David Davies gave the drawing to Maude Glover, who was one of his students in 1889. In 1887, Davies painted the portrait of Maude Glover's sister, Mabel, and this portrait is in the Castlemaine Art Gallery & Historical Museum. Copyright Notice Left:
