This is one of a large number of seascape works that David Davies produced while living in Cornwall.

James MacDonald in his work The Art & Life of David Davies, noted that this was a time of considerable artistic output by Davies, and that
'He not only painted every kind of scene, but he painted those scenes under many skies and at different times of the day. The sea in storm, at sunset, or flushed with the dawn; mid-day, deep-blue, snowy-ruffled seas and pallid skies with dark boats and their dark reflections silhouetted against them'.
